In Thai royal lingo, Savoey means ‘to eat’. No surprise, then, that this exciting new addition to the Darlinghurst dining scene treats everyone like Kings and Queens.
Savoey simply shines from its spot between Darlinghurst’s signature grungy buildings, and that’s thanks to proud owner Bo. Merging the decadence of upper-class Europe with his beloved Thailand, Bo has created a stunning restaurant that speaks of grandeur and beauty. Glossy marble tabletops, bistro chairs and grand oak closets are placed next to the majestic mural that serves as the centre piece of this elegant setup. Reminiscent of his own mother, Bo has placed his family heritage front and centre of this restaurant concept. And you can see love everywhere you look.
No more so than in the menu, which is an ode to the family kitchens of his home country. Bursting with flavour and personality, start your evening with a fishcake stack, steamed tapioca rolls or a Peking duck pancake with a diving hoisin-honey sauce. And what does Bo recommend? The beef short rib! A specialty from the north, this combination of crispy and blanched egg noodles with sumptuous beef is made even better with grandma’s chilli paste!
Up next is the Udon BBQ. A specialty of Bo’s homeland, a blend of herbs and spices is rubbed onto the pork and spareribs and then smothered with Savoey’s secret sticky sauce. Pair this meaty goodness with some stir-fried vegetables, any of Savoey’s specialty eggplant dishes or some buttery roti bread. A banquet fit for any royal occasion, this darling restaurant knows how to make everyone feel like family.
