Dialling up the glamour in Sydney Harbour, Playfair Terrace Restaurant is wooing diners with its upmarket interior and elevated cuisine.
Located in Rydges Hotel, Playfair enjoys beautiful views of the vast metropolis that is Sydney. Inside, however, offers a sophisticated retreat from the hustle and bustle. Before your dinner reservation, you are cordially invited to recline in a crushed velvet armchair adjacent to a roaring fire with your first glass of wine. Taking inspiration from glossy members clubs, it has an air of exclusivity that we can't get enough of. Then, you will discover their dramatic dining hall which is situated in the illustrious lobby of Rydges. With features like sky-high ceilings adorned with flags and punctuated by balconies and glossy marble floors, you could be mistaken for thinking you're in a grand palace.
And in the same way that the restaurant itself submerges itself in beauty, so does the food. Where every dish is akin to a work of art, you'll find that Playfair pays attention to every excruciating detail. Which bodes particularly well for the flavours! Here, beef sirloin is elevated further with a Japanese steak sauce, chicken breast is adorned with teriyaki sauce and local barramundi is accompanied by stir-fried Asian vegetables.
They also have plenty of delightful small plates. From chicken karaage with wasabi mayonnaise, fresh scallops and tempura prawns, they're taking inspiration from Japan's recipe book. Except when it comes to dessert; here you can round off your meal with a creamy tiramisu or crème brûlée. It's the perfect way to end a showstopping evening.
