A simple setup satisfies Achelya's central ethos of substance over style. Informal, open and bright, Achelya invites diners to get together and fill their tables to the brim with sumptuous plates that can be enjoyed in a leisurely fashion. Simply come as you are and stick around for a shisha pipe at the end to really make an evening out of it.
Their mains really push the boundaries of what can be called 'generous'. Whilst for some, it might mean a bigger portion, at Achelya, it means metre-long kebabs that are stuffed with meat and served with bowls of salad and rice. Then there's the mixed grill that piles on the lamb cutlets, chicken skewers, Adana kofte and chicken doner for a mind-boggling feast that might take a few of you to polish off.
If you fancy trying something new, look to the traditional manti, which are small dumplings filled with spiced lamb and drizzled with garlic yoghurt - maybe leave the kisses until later! As well as that, you have grilled seafood, NZ mussels done the Turkish way and a menu for the little ones. This is a place for the many, not the few.
