Warming Curry Spots on First Table
July 2022
Rogan Josh, vindaloo, tikka masala, hot jahingris, mango chicken all mopped up with naan bread! Let’s get toasty with a warming curry at one of First Table's tasty Indian restaurants in Sydney.
Colonial British Indian Cuisine restaurants, Neutral Bay, Balmain and Darlinghurst
A menu full of authentic, decadent flavours, it's no wonder The Colonial British Indian Cuisine restaurants in Neutral Bay, Balmain and Darlinghurst are award winning! Specialty curries such as the Royal chicken daal, the Bombay beef or the colonial mushroom curry showcase this Anglo-Indian cuisine in all its glory. If you're keen for a classic, all of the crowd pleasers are on the menu; butter chicken, lamb biriyani, paneer tikka masala, daals and vegan tofu curry all bases are covered. Visit the freshly baked bread menu for a mouthwatering selection of naan, stuffed naan, roti and paratha to mop up the last of your curry, and enjoy the aromatic flavours and cosy surrounds.
Masala Theory
This chic restaurant in Surry Hills, Masala Theory is the hotspot that mixes rustic with Bollywood, and boasts an interior as colourful as its clientele. Their menu is a vibrant symphony of traditional Indian cuisine with a modern twist. Start with their "Curry Bombs", their unique signature dish and will have you savouring every tangy, spicy bite. Prepare your taste buds for the likes of their unique creation of Lehsuni Strawberry Chicken or their Bhatti Butter Chicken, a comforting classic reimagined for the modern palate, paired well with their delicious range of cocktails. Each dish at Masala Theory is an immersive journey, one that will have you relishing the rich, warm flavours of Indian cuisine, all while sitting street side or inside their funky restaurant in trendy Surry Hills.
Foreign Return
This is Indian food with a trademark Aussie twist. Foreign Return's menu is full of flavours of once lost recipes that have been carried down through generations. From seafood moilee, tandoori Tassie salmon and Kangaroo Salli Tacoi, this is Australian produce at its most tantalising. And for the lost recipes? Look out for the slow-cooked goat curry from the royal kitchen of Rampur or the laal maans, a slow-cooked hot and spicy venison curry; a delicacy from Rajasthan’s royal kitchens. Last but not least, the cocktail menu is inspired by the different regions of India. Creations are made with a blend of spices, fruits, edible flowers and fresh herbs.
Jaggi’s at Neutral Bay
Jaggi's adds the spice to Neutral Bay. Warm up with chilli chicken, tandoori prawns, or lamb seekh. The mains then spice things up with the authentic tastes of our favourite curries, butter chicken, lamb madras, fish masala and fragrant prawn vindaloos. Vegetarians are spoiled with the likes of vege korma and eggplant Patiala baigan, and you’ll fail to count all the types of breads available on two hands, there are that many!
Dish Sri Lankan
Sri Lanka might be small compared to neighbouring India, but it boasts an astounding range of culinary treats. The curries at Dish Sri Lankan are equally as delicious with the authentic flavours of sizzling devilled chicken, peppered lamb and prawn curry. It’s not Sri Lankan food without Kottu Roti. This popular street food is filled with chopped roti, egg, chilli, vegetables and meats. Pair with a mango lush or Sri Lankan iced coffee for the full experience.
