Within Australian culinary circles, Savour’s Restaurant and Catering Awards is one of the most important events of the year. Considered the most authoritative guide to Australia’s best restaurants and caterers, a nod from the ‘R&C’ judges is enough to make any Head Chef swoon.

The judges cast a critical eye far and wide to find the best of the best from 1500 entrants across 30 categories. With the recent announcement of this year’s NSW finalists, restaurants along the northern beaches have been exceptionally well represented. Over the award’s 30 categories, 10 northern beaches restaurants have made it all the way to the finals.

There must be something about the living alongside kilometres of stunning coastline that gives these restaurants a little something extra.

Beachside Finalists

From the northern beaches, you’ll find Das Bierhaus in Mona Vale; Ashiana in Manly; Ormeggio at the Spit and Chiosco by Ormeggio in Mosman on the finalists’ list.

The restaurants will now compete against some of the most impressive names in the New South Wales dining scene and come under fierce scrutiny from the judging panel for a chance at glory.

Restaurants in the Fine Dining division are judged on 66 criteria and restaurants in the Informal and Casual Dining division are based on 55 criteria.

Stretching from Manly to Palm Beach, the northern beaches offer a vibrant alternative to dining in Sydney’s CBD. You’ll find a delectable mix of international and modern Australian cuisine sitting alongside beautiful coastline.

If you’d like to sample some of the finalists in the Restaurant and Catering Awards, check out:

Das Bierhaus, Mona Vale – Finalist in the European Restaurant category

Das Bierhaus is located in Mona Vale’s oldest hotel, ‘Rock Lily’, which was first established in 1886. Das Bierhaus’ impressive drinksand food menu is worthy of the impressive building in which it’s located. You’ll find 13 different beers and authentic Austrian and German fare.

Ashiana Indian Restaurant in Manly – Finalist in the Indian/Sub-Continent category

Offering a delicious and uncluttered menu of regional and North Indian cuisine, it’s almost impossible to pigeonhole Ashiana to one particular tradition. In fact, it is the blend of original Indian and contemporary flavours that makes Ashiana one of Manly’s favourite sub-continent restaurants.

Ormeggio at the Spit in Mosman – Finalist in the Formal Italian Restaurant category

The ‘Ormeggio Experience’ takes diners beyond anything you have come to expect from a traditional Italian restaurant. The restaurant has Two Chef Hats and sits on a spectacular waterside setting overlooking Middle Harbour and Pearl Bay. Ormeggio at the Spit combines the tradition of Italian cuisine with a flair for new techniques and pushing boundaries.

Chiosco by Ormeggio in Mosman – Finalist in the Informal Italian Restaurant category

This ‘BYO and barefoot friendly’ Ormeggio offers a genuine Italian trattoria experience with the bonus of exceptional sea views. Expect delicious traditional Italian fare available for lunch, dinner or takeaway.

So, it’s a big ‘well done’ to the northern beaches restaurants that have been recognised by some of the best in the business for their hard work and dedication to industry best practice.
