Not many people think of fine dining as fun in a devil-may-care kind of way, but Bóveda is cutting out the exclusiveness and hushed luxury and making way for unapologetic roars of laughter and good times.
In case you were wondering, Bóveda means 'vault' in Spanish, thus celebrating the history of the building which was once a bank vault. Instead of a bank now lies a rustic yet modern space that is alive with disco balls, informal bar stools, wax-covered windowsills (because of the sheer amount of candles they have) and an ultra-modern bar that serves to highlight their love of good wine. Catch them at the weekend and you're in for a right jolly time next to the DJ booth that's spinning bangers all evening long.
The menu is triumphant in bringing together modern Mexican food within a fine dining setting. The evenings are long so indulge in small gastronomic creations like the scallop toast with burnt grapefruit, loaded nachos (but make them fancy) with eff yolk and MB7+ beef crudo, and Fremantle octopus with butter beans and salsa.
And if you thought tacos don't benefit from the fancy treatment either, think again. Little details elevate these to new heights with the addition of preserved lemon, sumac, whipped almond and fermented cabbage. Finally, for the big plates, premium cuts of meat make a grand entrance, causing waves with MB3+ dry aged striploin, MB7 rump cap and lamb shoulder.
At Bóveda, the party isn't just on Friday night, it's on your plate too.
