Cafe Oratnek

Tucked away behind a set of old iron gates in a little terrace house, Cafe Oratnek offers a cosy dining experience, welcoming all who enter with rustic walls, subway tiles, timber furniture, flowers, and herbs growing out of every nook.

Kenny Takayama, former Head Chef of Bills, Darlinghurst, leads a talented team that handcrafts unique dishes that are technically sophisticated and familiarly enjoyed. He offers a fusion of Australian cuisine with an Asian influence and his love of local fresh food.

'Finished everyday, fresh the day the after' is the Chef's motto, and it is this freshness that often dictates the two daily specials on offer. Favourites include the mentaiko dashimaki omlette on rye, spicy cod roe, fresh shiso from the garden, kobe hayashi rice, wagyu, onion, mushroom, cheese, and rich demi-glace, showcasing the diverse flavours of Japan.

Wash down your meal with a matcha latte, a variety of hot and cold teas and coffees, including Japanese V60 pour-over, or even their house-baked chai. A novelty, you say? A necessity, we say!
