Founded by mother-and-daughter duo, this Beijing-fusion tapas restaurant serves up unique dishes with passion and flair, with a nostalgic nod to the best of Chinese cuisine.
When founder JJ realised most Chinese restaurants in Canberra were Cantonese, she wanted to introduce a fresh new eatery that showcased Beijing’s Hutong (street) food. Her mother, who previously cooked at Parliament House, breathes new life and creativity into traditional Chinese food. Having been taught how to cook by her grandfather, who himself was a chef in China’s Imperial Palace, Nancy delights in creating a sharing menu of time-old and contemporary dishes.
Sink your teeth into a soft peking duck bao (steamed bun), mini Jianbing or enjoy authentic spicy cumin lamb skewers. If you’re going for meaty tapas, try the crispy banana chicken wings, or if you’re hankering for veggies, try their stuffed eggplant with silken tofu - one of the many yummy plates from their vegetarian and vegan menu. Not sure what to have? Ask the friendly staff what to recommend, or order the ‘Surprise Me’ option!
Relax in artist surroundings at this vibrant restaurant, whilst enjoying a fiery cocktail before dinner (all drinks are inspired by JJ’s experience in Beijing). It’s all about the authentic Beijing-fusion tapas-style food at Sanya Bar, found on Lonsdale Street, in the heart of Canberra.
